We took down Christmas today. Not the sort of takedown that might occur inside a squared circle, where one snatches up a steel folding chair and launches a surprise attack on a dazed, unsuspecting artificial fir tree — although that sounds hella fun. No, I mean the more boring yet also exhilarating kind, where all things Christmas are shoved into plastic totes and boxes and banished into the eaves of the house until next December. Resetting the living room back to its base state was a relief, to be honest. I’ve been itching to take down the decorations down since the Friendsmas we hosted on Sunday ended. The space is emptier, yes, but it also means it’s once more a blank canvas, ready to be remade.
Christmas 2025 was a lot of fun, but the season had its moment. Now it’s time to catch my breath, kick back, and ruminate on what kind of year 2026 should be.
I will miss the lights on the tree, though.
