Ditched work today to grab brunch in Yellow Springs and stroll about a bit, followed later at home by birthday carrot cake, Sherry’s Berries, and the PARROT KINDERGARTEN documentary. It was a nice way to cap off M’s birthday weekend.
While in Yellow Springs, I also ventured into Darkstar, because how could I not. Thirty minutes later I exited with a cheap, linen-bound collection of stories by Robert Louis Stevenson in hand. It didn’t cost much, but it’s fun to hold. I’ve only read a couple of Stevenson’s works, so it’ll be fun to crack this open soon.

PARROT KINDERGARTEN was some wild, fascinating shit. I watched with rapt attention as a parrot used her tablet to call other parrots, grieve the death of a sibling, and get hooked on phonics. The documentary is well worth a watch, and their short content is also terrific.
LISTEN: ARMCHAIR APOCRYPHA, Andrew Bird
STILL READING: KING OF ASHES (it’s a grimmer novel than Cosby’s previous — which is saying something — so even though it is quite good, I find myself reading it in smaller chunks)
