I was looking at old timey station sign-offs, those things television stations would air once all the late-night shows and movies were over, and the station was ready to shut down for the night (yes, this was once a thing). They would show a test card, used to tune the television for the night, followed by a rendition of the national anthem, because Patriotism. Then the TV station would sign off for the night.
I typically think of these as relics, charming throwbacks from a more primitive age… like from the times before I was born. Then I stumbled across this one on Reddit, and let out a deep sigh of recognition. My childhood memories are generally a blur, but my poor brain still recalled a fragment of a memory: staying up late and watching TV at a friend’s house, and then this buzzkill started playing. This would have been very early 90s. I would have been young, but not like… baby young. This made me feel a bit aged, yes, but it was worth it to be gifted with this sliver of memory.
Oh, in other elder Millennial personal news, the other day I said, “We should film you using your chainsaw later!” Which would have been fine, except I didn’t say that. No, what I actually said was: “We should videotape you using your chainsaw later!”
Videotape. As a verb.
I instantly felt a hundred.
